Kakunodate is a castle town that prospered during the Edo period and is called "Little Kyoto of Michinoku". The main street of the samurai residences has been designated as an important traditional buildings preservation district of the country and is protected as a cultural property.
江戸時代に栄えた城下町で、「みちのくの小京都」と呼ばれる角館。武家屋敷群の表通りは国の重要伝統的建造物群保存地区の指定を受けており、文化財として保護されています。
