In this video we are going to look at word stress and sentence stress through the famous song ‘My Favourite Things’ from the 1965 musical film ‘The Sound of Music’. The song works so well because it has been written using triple time like a waltz: it follows the pattern: one-two-three-one-two-three. Throughout the lyrics, all strong syllables fall on the ‘one’ while weak syllables fall on the ‘two‘ or ‘three‘. We are going to have a look at one verse of this song and then you are encouraged to write your own verse telling us about your favourite things.

Journey: Is the distance covered when travelling from one place to another. It can be a long or a short journey.

• How was your journey?

Tour is a journey during which several places are visited, especially on a holiday.

?️ You must write an essay in response to a question.

? It is important that you write 250 words or more.

⌛ You should spend around 40 minutes on this section of the IELTS test.

? Task 2 is worth 2/3 of your total mark for IELTS Writing.

?️ The key to doing well is knowing exactly what the examiners want and giving it to them.

Your questions answered:

❓ Should I use personal pronouns in my essay?
? You should try to avoid using these, but it is fine to use them when giving your personal opinion.

❓Will using lots of idioms and phrasal verbs boost my score?
? No! You should not use idioms in Writing Task 2.

❓ Is it possible for me to score a Band 8?
? Yes! However, the average IELTS score is 5.5, so you need to work EXTRA hard to get a Band 8.

❓ How many paragraphs should I write?

? Four. Most IELTS Writing Task 2 essays follow the same basic four paragraph structure:

Introduction - Main Body Paragraph 1 - Main Body Paragraph 2 - Conclusion

❓ Will I lose marks if I don’t write enough words?

? Yes. If you don’t write at least 250 words, you will lose marks in ‘Task Achievement’ for not answering the question fully:(

It is very easy to teach a child to read.
1) Teach letter sounds
2) Have the child blend two and three letter words!(expand below)

Once the child has mastered reading some words Move on to teach all of the sounds of the english language through a comprehensive primer. My favorite primer and the ones I used with my kids is Alpha Phonics:

Proceed to teach Dolch sight words once the child is reading simple words. Sight words are needed to be learned by sight so that child becomes a fluent reader. These are the words most seen in English when reading that do not follow decoding rules. I will be making a video of the sight words so that you can show your kids.
