Thousands of parents and educators are turning to the kids’ learning app that makes real learning truly fun. Try Kids Academy now! Enjoy our special Cyber Week offer. The price was 75% higher! https://www.kidsacademy.mobi/s....ubscription-plan/cyb

All students that learn to read begin with the same basic fundamental skills. Students learn to identify upper and lowercase letters, learn letter sounds, and how the letter arrangement or letter order forms words. Students then progress to learning print awareness skills such as to begin reading at the top of a page, and read to the bottom. Knowing to read words from left to right is print awareness too.

Kids Academy has a series of videos that teach these basic skills. Beginning with the most basic of concepts, the first video teaches children that every word that is heard can be written down. Children learning how to read for kindergarten level, see easy three-letter words demonstrating this premise. The video shows how the letters D-O-G make the word DOG. The learner hears the name of each letter and then the word. Students viewing the video can read along! Further, students learn the names of each uppercase letter of the alphabet in a fun video that writes each letter, and then a fun animation with a character or object with that letter sound moves across the screen.

With other videos in this series, students progressing from Kindergarten to learning how to read for Grade 1, view letters that make a word. The letters given in the example are not in the correct order and must be unscrambled to make the correct word. Students practice and learn to read the one syllable words given in the examples. Students that are beginning to learn to read with phonics benefit from this instruction using one syllable CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words.

In more videos, students learn that words in a sentence have a space between them. Students clearly see that without these spaces, the words are difficult to read. The videos instructs learners to begin reading from the top of a page and then from left to right.

Teachers in the school as well as the home classroom that need resources on learning to read for kids find these videos are a great addition to daily instruction. Students learn letter identification, read one syllable words, and print awareness concepts.

TRANSCRIPT:

Do you want to improve your listening skills of fast English so you can understand native English speakers in any context. Well, that's what you'll do today. Welcome back to JForrest English. My name is Jennifer and today you're going to test your listening skills. This is all fun lesson. Now let's get started. Here are your instructions for the entire lesson? I'm going to say a sentence and I'm going to say it at a fast-paced, the way I would speak to my friends or colleagues. I'm going to use phrasal verbs idioms and expressions and I'm going to use natural pronunciation and you're going to test your listening skills. I will say each sentence, three times write down exactly what you hear in the comments section. And then after I'll explain exactly what I said, the expression I use and the natural pronunciation changes. Okay, our first listening test. Did you get that one? I said, did you break it to him first? Let's talk about the pronunciation. Changes. Did you? We pronounce this as didja, didja, didja. So I combine those sounds together and I take you and I change it to ya. Did you did you did you break it to him? Notice the last two words, really sounded like one
word Tim. Tim, it almost sounded like Tim the name Tim and that's because we frequently get rid of the H on him and her at a natural pace. And we connect it to the word before. So it really sounds like em em and then you hear the from to Tim, Tim, did you break it to him? Now, what does this mean to break something?

To someone is an expression and we use this when you share news or information with someone but it's always negative. So maybe you applied for a promotion but you're not going to get the promotion so that's the negative news. Did you break it to them? That he's not getting the promotion. So did you share this negative news with him?

Him, did you break it to him? Our next listening, test. Remember to put what you hear in the comments, cut it out. Would you cut it out? Would you cut it out? Would you did you get that one? I said, cut it out, would you first? Let's talk about pronunciation. Did y'all the same thing is happening here with? Would you you becomes yah and I combine. Those sounds whoo.

Jia Jia Jia? Would you would you, would you cut it out? Would you now let's talk about cut it out. You'll notice, we have teased in between vowels in American English, when a t comes between vowels, we change that to a, a very soft deep because they get out, cut it out, and I pronounce all three as one. Cut it out, cut it out.

It out, cut it out, cut it out. Would you the expression to cut something out? Means to stop something that is annoying or frustrating or irritating or unwanted. So, let's say you're in a meeting for work. And in the background, your kids are going crazy. They're screaming, they're yelling, they're fighting. This is behavior. That is unwanted frustrating irritating.

Annoying and you want them to stop so you can say to your kids cut it out. Would y'all are next? Listening exercise? Right? What you hear in the comments.

You got to kick it up a notch.

You gotta kick it up a notch, you got to kick it up a notch. Did you get that one? I said you gotta kick it up a notch. First notice how I used gotta? This is a reduction. It's a combination of the words dot to and it's pronounced as one. Gotta you gotta you can also say you've gotta you

You have got to. But in American English, it's very common to just say you gotta you gotta, you got to is the same as you have to.

TOEFL Listening - 5 Top Tips for Note Taking

I tell you my 5 top tips for note taking in TOEFL Listening. Taking notes in TOEFL Listening is hard because you need to take notes while listening and you do not have much time. Therefore, you must take notes in a way that does not cost you much time and that boosts your TOEFL Listening score. I show you the 5 things I did when taking notes in TOEFL Listening which helped me get a high score. Use these tips and boost your TOEFL score!

MORE VIDEOS FOR YOU
TOEFL Listening Question Types and Strategies: https://youtu.be/80KA2NcGfXc
TOEFL Listening Question Types and Strategies - Part 2: https://youtu.be/qI0YOyvLk50
TOEFL Speaking - How to Take Notes: https://youtu.be/3jUJy52oR5Q

FYI
The examples I use in the video and in the illustration are made up by me.

1) Do not write down everything
Do not write down everything you listen to. If you do that, you most likely will not be able to focus on what the speaker says because you are so focused on writing everything down. This will lower your TOEFL Listening score. In fact, it is not necessary to take notes of everything because you will not be asked everything in the questions. You will be asked the important things which means that it is sufficient to take notes of these. So the question is: What are the important things? This brings us directly to the second tip.

2) Anticipate the questions
You must know the question types that can appear in TOEFL Listening so that you can anticipate them when taking notes. If you know the types of questions you will be asked this makes it a lot easier for you because you know exactly what you need to listen for and what you need to write down. This will prevent you from taking notes that you do not need. This means that note taking will be less stressful and that you will be taking the right notes that get you a high TOEFL Listening score.

3) Do not copy the speaker
Guys, it is tempting to write down the exact words the speaker uses. However, I do not recommend it. The problem is that you may end up trying to remember the exact words the speaker used in the listening task. What happens then is that you lose focus and do not listen actively anymore because you are so focused on remembering the words. This also means that you will lose valuable time. Therefore, use your own words. It is not necessary to know which words the speaker used when answering the questions in TOEFL Listening. The questions will ask you about the speaker’s idea, so it is totally sufficient if you take notes of the idea that the speaker talks about.

4) Listen for self-correction
In TOEFL Listening it often happens that the speaker says something and then corrects himself immediately afterwards. If you listen to self-correction, it is very likely that you will be asked a question about that. The examiner uses these self-corrections because he wants to check whether you see that the speaker corrected himself. Therefore, make sure that you listen actively for these self-corrections and that you take notes of what the speaker actually wanted to say. This is your chance to improve your TOEFL Listening score!

5) Use abbreviations and symbols
When you are taking notes in TOEFL Listening use abbreviations and symbols. This saves you a lot of time. For example, use arrows to indicate that something is a consequence of something or use the plus symbol to indicate that the speaker is adding an idea. It is very important that you use symbols that make sense to you, that help you take notes faster, and that help you understand the key points. Therefore, make sure you use symbols you are familiar with because you must understand your notes when answering the questions.
